A Look Into My Guest Room

I like to think of my guest room as a wonderful little oasis, ready in a moment's notice. I love hosting friends whether simply overnight or for a full vacation.

When I began putting this room together, I started with a lot of items that I already had: a full-size bed, a duvet, a set of sheets, a brass headboard, vintage tables, some pillows, decorative vases, some paintings, lamps, chairs, a desk, and a small chest.

The sheets I have are from Peacock Alley. I want to say I purchased them around 5-7 years ago and they are still in amazing condition. They are made from bamboo and are delightful. The duvet and cover were given to me by my grandmother from her vast linen closet. The duvet is a sateen cotton, so I have minimal issues with it wrinkling. I have two luscious square euro pillows and king size euro pillows from Lilli Alessandra. The paintings I have in the room are watercolors I painted myself. The rest of these items are mostly hand-me-downs from my parents’ home.

The first thing I purchased were pillows. I like to keep a variety of pillows on the bed. I keep two down pillows on the bed and two memory foam pillows in the closet. The three accent pillows I have on the bed are feather pillows from Tuesday Morning. The other pillows I have are from Lilli Alessandra, which are the pillows I use in my own room. I think they are amazing and worth the investment. The pillow inserts are made of 95% feather and 5% down. The beauty of purchasing Lilli Alessandra products is that because their cases are generally oversized, they often include a pillow insert with a pillowcase.

Next, I purchased a set of soft Turkish cotton towels for the bathroom from Tuesday Morning. I keep at least two sets of towels, hand towels, and washcloths in the bathroom at any given time. I also like to keep a couple of beach towels in the bathroom since I have a swimming pool.

The last thing I purchased was a new set of lamps and some cute faux hydrangeas for the vases. I came across these lamps on Amazon and could not help myself. I think a good-looking lamp makes a big difference in the look of a room. The faux hydrangeas are also from Amazon.

In addition to the essentials, I keep some smaller items in the guest room such as a notebook, pens, extra phone chargers, books, and a water carafe. The notebook is one of my favorite parts because whenever someone stays in the room, they will typically leave a note.

In the bathroom I have a spare hairdryer and pretty much anything else you can possibly think of such as shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, mini soaps, razors, toothbrushes, a first aid kit, shout wipes, dry shampoo, ibuprofen, sunscreen, candles, poo-pouri, ear plugs, sleep masks, face mask sheets, lotion, etc. If you are like me and get a lot of soap gifts or keep the mini soaps from hotels, now these items have a home.

Something else I keep in my guest room is a box of little organza bags. When people come to visit, I love leaving a goodie bag on the pillow with either a small hand lotion or candies and a note. This is something that I am always delighted to find at a hotel and it requires minimal cost and effort. It is an easy way to step up your hosting game and your guests will appreciate this thoughtful touch!

I am always looking for new things to add to my guest room. If you are working on your own guest room, I hope this provides you with some inspiration. Guest rooms are one of those things that come together over time so don't worry is you are starting off with the basics. All you need is a little bit of thoughtfulness to make someone feel at home.

Let me know what you keep in your guest room in the comments below!

As Always, Alli
